Art Club: Spring | Free Creative Photography Workshops in Leeds

This spring, Mafwa Theatre invites you to a new round of Art Club, delivered in partnership with Lens Lab Project.

Running from March to May 2026, these Art Club workshops are a free, weekly creative space where we’ll explore photography as a way of looking at the world around us. Across the sessions, participants will take gentle photowalks, make portraits, experiment with hands-on printing techniques, and work together through shared creative activities.

This round of Art Club focuses on photography in an open, accessible way. We’ll use smartphones, cameras and analogue processes to explore ideas of identity, place and nature, taking time to notice everyday details and experiment at your own pace. Each session offers something a little different, with an emphasis on curiosity, collaboration and learning through doing.

You don’t need any previous experience to take part. Art Club is open to adults aged 16+, whether you’re completely new to photography or already enjoy making images. Sessions are about slowing down, spending time together, and enjoying the creative process as much as the outcomes.

Wednesdays, 4th March – 13th May 2026
10:30am – 12:30pm

Most sessions take place in the Roxby Community Garden and Lens Lab Studios, with a small number of sessions held at other local locations.

About the collaboration

These Art Club sessions are a collaboration between Mafwa Theatre and the Lens Lab Project, two Leeds-based organisations who believe in the power of creativity to bring people together.

Mafwa Theatre creates welcoming, trauma-informed creative spaces for people from refugee, asylum seeker and settled communities, with a focus on connection, wellbeing and shared experience.

Lens Lab Project is a photography studio and learning space in Leeds, working with communities to explore photography as a tool for expression, confidence and storytelling. Together, this partnership brings photography into the garden, the studio and the local area, creating space to experiment, reflect and share work with others.
