Become a Mafwa Trustee

We're recruiting up to three new trustees to help shape the future of Mafwa Theatre.

As a trustee, you'll help guide our growing community arts organisation as we bring together refugees, people seeking asylum and settled communities through art and nature. It's an opportunity to use your skills, experience or lived experience to make a meaningful difference in Leeds.

You don't need previous trustee experience to apply. We're looking for people who care about our mission and want to help us grow sustainably, think strategically and ensure our work continues to have a lasting impact. We'll provide induction, training and ongoing support to help you develop in the role.

We'd love to hear from people from all backgrounds.

We welcome both first-time and experienced trustees from all backgrounds, especially people who bring lived experience or insight into the challenges our communities face.

We're particularly interested in people with experience or knowledge in one or more of the following areas:

  • The UK asylum system or migration

  • Leadership in the public or voluntary sector

  • Communications or marketing

  • Finance or budgeting

  • IT or systems management

  • The legal sector

We're also keen to hear from people who:

  • Bring lived experience of migration or seeking asylum

  • Already volunteer with Mafwa or are active in their local community

  • Support or lead community groups, grassroots organisations or small arts projects

We want our Board to reflect the diversity of the communities we work with and bring a broad range of experiences, perspectives and skills to help shape our future.

How to Apply

To apply, please complete the form below or, if you prefer, follow the guidance in our Trustee Recruitment Pack. We’d like to know:

  • Why you're interested in joining the Mafwa Theatre Board

  • What skills, experience or lived experience you'd bring

  • What excites you about getting involved

Once we've received your form, we'll be in touch about the next steps. This usually begins with an informal conversation with our Chair, followed by the opportunity to observe a Board meeting before deciding whether becoming a trustee is the right fit for you.
