Cooking with Parveen: Stories from our Kitchens

from £10.00

Cooking with Parveen: Stories from our Kitchens is a unique collection of recipes, poetry and illustration. It is a collaboration by the women of Mafwa Theatre and Julia Syrzistie.

Vibrant and sensory, Cooking with Parveen celebrates the capacity of food to both connect us to our own stories and to nourish our shared lives. This is a recipe book whose secret ingredients lie beyond the kitchen cupboards, instead being found in culture, memory and family.

All proceeds go towards sustaining the weekly women’s theatre sessions.

Cooking with Parveen is the culmination of a Mawa Theatre project which ran from October 2019 - August 2020. Before and during the Covid-19 lockdown, the women of Mafwa Theatre explored and shared their personal food stories through talking, writing, performing and cooking. Cooking with Parveen was funded by Arts Council England, Leeds Community Foundation, Leeds City Council Language Hub and Near Neighbours.
