Mafwa Theatre’s annual Refugee Week celebration returns to the Roxby Community Garden for its biggest year yet, expanding across three days for the first time as Mafwa Midsummer.
Across the weekend, the Roxby Community Garden will host performances, workshops, exhibitions, music, play sessions and drop-in activity from artists, performers and community groups from across Leeds.
This year’s programme includes contributions from Brave Words, Yorkshire Dance, Hind and the Jafar Cakes, Boom Chikka Boom, Kuluhenna Drama and more, alongside gardening workshops, photography exhibitions, storytelling, community showcases and family activities unfolding throughout the space.
Whether you come along for a particular workshop or performance or simply spend an afternoon in the garden, we’d love to welcome you.

Refugee Week 2026
Mafwa Midsummer takes place as part of Refugee Week 2026, the world’s largest arts and culture festival celebrating the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary.
This year’s Refugee Week theme is Courage, something that takes many forms, from starting over in a new country to picking up a microphone, joining a dance workshop or introducing yourself to somebody new.
