Mafwa Theatre is now a registered charity

We’re excited to share that Mafwa Theatre is now a registered charity and Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO)!

Our charity number is: 1218759

This marks a really important next step for us. Becoming a charity strengthens our governance, opens up new funding opportunities and helps us build a more sustainable future for work.

What this means for Mafwa

While our legal structure has changed, the heart of Mafwa remains the same. We’ll continue bringing refugees, asylum seekers and settled communities together through arts, culture and nature, speaking truth to power and creating a more welcoming Leeds. All of our current projects, workshops, events and partnerships will continue, and our values and ambitions for the future remain unchanged.

Becoming a CIO gives us a structure designed specifically for charities, helping us strengthen our governance and access funding opportunities that weren’t previously available to us.

What does this mean for you?

For most people, very little will change. If you take part in our activities, attend our events, volunteer with us, receive our newsletter or support Mafwa in another way, you can continue to do so as usual. Our work and the ways you can get involved with Mafwa will remain the same.

As part of this transition, Mafwa Theatre CIO will become responsible for the personal information currently held by Mafwa Theatre CIC. The way we use and protect your information will stay the same.

If you’re happy for us to continue holding your information, you don’t need to do anything.
