Weekly Women's Workshops

Every week we deliver online theatre workshops for women from refugee, asylum seeker & wider Leeds communities.

Despite not being able to meet in person, we have been having lots of fun! We have made bath bombs with Mentally Healthy Leeds and we are working on a project with East Street Arts about Burmantofts Pottery.

If you would like to join in with our weekly women's workshops, you can sign up on our website.

Co-op Local Community Fund

We are delighted to be selected as a cause that Co-op members can support, through the Co-op Local Community Fund.

It's really simple to become a Co-op member and to choose us as your local cause to support.

Watch 'A Picnic Together'

Join Mafwa Theatre and Hope Strickland for a picnic, together. The short film follows members of Mafwa Theatre as they prepare to meet for the first time since lockdown. As part of the ‘Cooking with Parveen’ project, ‘a picnic, together’ explores the power of food to bring us together in the face of adversity.

You can now watch it on our YouTube channel.

Assistant Artist Programme 2020/21🎭

Things to do

Help Lift the Ban

Mafwa Theatre is proud to be a part of the Lift The Ban coalition. 200 organisations have joined together to campaign for the right to work for people seeking asylum. Being able to work is so important as it helps people integrate into their new communities, use their skills and potential and allows them to provide for their families. There are loads of ways you can get involved to help #LiftTheBan - check out their website for more information.

Fibre Soundscape - Verd de Gris Arts

We love this sound:poem by verd de gris arts! During the COVID-19 lockdown, they have been exploring what it means to be connected with the women from their One Voice group, poet Katie Atkinson and sound artist and composer Nina Perry.

"This beautiful sound:poem seeks to capture the extraordinary times we have all been living through - the voices of women as they move through the darkest of times, to the re-emergence of hope." - verd de gris arts
